Nissan Lights Up Christmas Lights Using The Leaf’s V2X System

Nissan is feeling festive in the UK and has established an array of Christmas lights at its Sunderland Plant powered by a Leaf.

The display includes a 32-foot Christmas tree, reindeer, and a large sign celebrating the 250,000 Leaf models that have been produced at the factory. The Leaf’s V2X technology powers all of the lights.

The automaker notes that the V2X system of the Leaf allows owners to store electricity in their vehicle’s battery and feed it to the grid. Alternatively, they can use the electricity for personal use.

“Passing a quarter of a million Nissan LEAF is a tremendous milestone, and demonstrates the electric vehicle manufacturing expertise we have built up at our plant over the past decade,” vice president of manufacturing at Nissan Sunderland Plant, Alan Johnson said. “This year we have completely electrified the plant’s line-up with the new versions of Qashqai and Juke launched, so lighting up the Christmas tree with our original EV is a spectacular and appropriate way to end 2022.”

Nissan introduced the facelifted 2023 Leaf in the first half of 2022. While the updates are minor, they include a new front fascia, a revised grille, and updated headlights. Additionally, customers in the U.S. now only have two trim levels to choose from as opposed to the five on offer for the 2022 model.

Powering the standard Leaf is an electric motor delivering 147 hp and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque while fed by a 40 kWh battery pack. The flagship Leaf SV Plus boasts a more powerful motor with 214 hp and 250 lb-ft (339 Nm) of torque and works alongside a 60 kWh batter pack.
